Hello Quasimodo,
the Advanced Classes mod has no problem with defense. The problem lies in the extremely high numbers that can be reached in certain maps. The ACM mod was designed for 8 or 10 secondary skill limits per hero and a primary stat points up to 100. With these numbers, everything stays in a reasonable range. But what I did not consider is a player using 28 skills and primary stats above 200.
To reach a shield value of 64% reduction, you need a Magic Strength of about 174 points, which speaks for an equivalent spell power.
Several parameters of the mod would need to be adjusted to archive a better balance for such high numbers.
If you want, you might tweak the numbers yourself in the code, for a personal optimal gameplay experience.
